‘Diaphanous Depths 1’ is part of ongoing explorations with paper. A bunch of new paper pieces were created this month as part of ongoing explorations with paper. The works can be a window into my process. Working with them offer a playground to explore, innovate, and take risks with minimal expectation or judgment.

The medium of paper offers a malleable canvas, allowing for an unfettered exploration of materials. I love that you can completely deconstruct an existing work, rip it up, and paste it on another. You can have marbled papers of different gauges, and in this case I’ve even used some washi papers from Japan along with heavyweight watercolour paper. They have been layered with these differing papers as well as fluid acrylics and skins.

Many of my paintings on canvas have collaged elements also (in the form of paint skins only), and this idea originally came from working with paper. For more, this blog post is for you: Paper Processes.
